Apple DUNS Number: Organization Enrollment Guide

Apple uses the D-U-N-S number to verify the identity and legal entity status of organizations enrolling in the Apple Developer Program.

Short answer

Use the D-U-N-S record registered to the legal entity enrolling with Apple

Apple requires companies and educational institutions enrolling as organizations to provide the D-U-N-S number registered to their legal entity. Apple does not accept a DBA, fictitious business, trade name or branch as the organization enrolling in place of the legal entity.

What Apple checks

Apple uses the D-U-N-S number as part of its enrollment verification, together with the organization’s legal entity status and other enrollment information. The company name entered in Apple should therefore correspond to the legal entity associated with the D-U-N-S record.

How long does the Apple DUNS process take?

Apple currently advises allowing up to 5 business days to receive a new D-U-N-S number from D&B through its process. Once the number is received, Apple says to allow up to 2 business days for Apple to receive the information. The same two-business-day transfer window can apply after D&B profile updates.

Common Apple verification problems

Legal name mismatch

The name entered in Apple differs from the legal entity name in the business record.

Address mismatch

The company has moved or the Apple entry does not correspond to the current D-U-N-S record.

Wrong entity

A parent, subsidiary or branch number is used instead of the legal entity enrolling.

Recent update

D&B was updated but the information has not yet reached Apple.

What documents should be ready?

Apple notes that D&B may contact the organization for more information and recommends having business-registration documents ready. Apple may also request additional documents during organization verification, depending on the enrollment and region.

Frequently asked questions
