Do not immediately create a second D-U-N-S request
First verify the legal entity name, address and exact company record you are searching for. Dun & Bradstreet notes that a lookup can fail when the phone number or address does not match the company profile, and a company may also simply not have a number yet.
1. Search the legal entity, not only the brand name
A trade name, product name or local-language brand may not be the legal entity name stored in the business record. Use the company name from the incorporation or registration documents and try the current registered address.
2. Check whether the address or phone number changed
Dun & Bradstreet specifically notes that a company may be difficult to find if the address or phone number in the profile differs from the information used in the lookup. If the company moved, an update to the existing record may be the correct next step.
3. Allow for recent issuance or platform synchronization
If the number was just created, the D-U-N-S record may exist while a third-party platform has not yet received the update. Apple, for example, publishes a data-transfer window of up to 2 business days after issuance or an update reaches D&B.
4. Confirm that you are using the correct legal entity
Groups with multiple subsidiaries or locations can have more than one business record. The number used for Apple, Google or another platform should correspond to the legal entity whose name and address will be verified.
Frequently asked questions
Does “DUNS not found” always mean I need a new number?
No. A mismatched name, address or phone number, a recent update, or the wrong legal entity can also cause a failed lookup.
Should I submit another application if my number was issued recently?
Usually not. Check the current record and allow any stated platform synchronization period first.
What if the company really has no D-U-N-S number?
If a correct search confirms there is no existing record, use the appropriate official request route or an independent support service to prepare the application.
